About Shannan

ShannanIf we were to meet in person, your first question might be, “Tell me about yourself?” And I might lead with, “I’m a Realtor.®” It’s what we normally do – we lead with our work. But the truth is, that wouldn’t really tell you anything about me. It would simply drop me into a sorting bucket defined by what you’ve been told a Realtor® is. Still, we have to start somewhere, so let’s start there.

I’m a Realtor:®
I entered the profession of real estate at the beginning of one of the most unstable economies in our nation’s history: the Great Recession. Other real estate agents were exiting the market by the hundreds, unable to earn a living in such a difficult climate. But I was freshly-minted, with no expectation of how things were “supposed to be.” I had children to support, and I was willing to work with the way things were.

It was in those uncertain waters that I learned to walk. And then I learned to run. In time, I’ve become one of the very best Realtors® in the area. Why? Because, for me, each new client created an opportunity for growth and gratitude. I worked hard, and then I worked harder. And hard work worked. I was helping people, and they referred new people in return. I loved it!

That sense of gratitude, with a focus on honor and respect for my clients and my community, has served me well. My practice grew and flourished. I stayed with my first company for 9 years, moved, then co-owned a small office in downtown Bremerton. Then, 2020 and Covid came along – and with it, the birth of Adept Real Estate, born of all that history and experience. In the Great Recession, I succeeded because I believed I could. Today, I still carry that belief, and now it’s backed up by proof. My understanding of my clients’ needs, my negotiating skills, my follow-through, and my attention to detail are infused with the qualities that have made me successful from the beginning: gratitude, honor and respect.

I’m a community leader:
There are a lot of elements that go into building a stable community, and one of the most important is creating opportunities for people to put down roots here. The foundation that holds up a house holds up a community, so moving people from the temporary condition of renting to the rooted stability of homeownership is essential. For years, in conjunction with Community Frameworks, a local non-profit, I invested my time, experience, gratitude, honor, and respect to help people purchase homes who might not otherwise have been able to afford it. Those new homeowners can now feel committed to their community because they don’t just live here anymore; they own homes here. Today, my vision is to create new homes and new homeownership opportunities for mortgage-ready, working people who make less than the area median income.

I’m a mother:
I sometimes have to pinch myself when I think about how blessed I am to be the mother of my two (now young adult) children. I’m grateful for their presence and their love; I honor their individual ways of being in this world, and I respect the paths they’re choosing for their lives. They are both gifted artists and deep thinkers. Most of all, they are kind and profoundly concerned about the well-being of others. My oldest is also a Realtor® and has joined Adept Real Estate as my field agent. He brings his compassion, intellect and good humor to the job, to the delight of our clients. My youngest is pursuing an education that will pave the way to teach, enlighten and befriend the world. They are truly my best friends, and I lean into them for their wisdom and insights.

I am a gardener and landscaper:
Honestly, is there anything more strenuous and yet more gratifying than beautifying your own yard? Designing it, then installing hardscape, preparing the soil, planting the seeds and starts, nurturing them, providing for them, then seeing them grow and thrive? It’s a pastime that brings joy to every season for me.

I’m an adventurer:
The Olympic Mountains are always calling me… but I only answer in summer. I love going on short overnight hikes with my dogs. The rest of the world is also calling me… and I plan on traveling as much as possible, soon! Different cultures and different cuisines are a whole new realm that I can’t wait to explore.

I’m a friend:
No matter what triggers the initial contact, gratitude, honor, and respect inevitably lead to friendship. How could it not? While it’s easy to count success in the real estate profession by the number of transactions completed, what fills my heart is to think of all the friendships that have come from it. This community is my home, and I love encountering friends wherever I go.

Gratitude. Honor. Respect. They work in my friendships, my garden, my adventures, and my family. They work in my community and they work in my real estate practice. Truth is, they make everything work.
